The Cobra 29 is the Ford F-150 of CB radios. Not the best at anything, but the most proven and most supported. Buy it if you want something that just works.
The Cobra 29 LTD Classic is, for many people, the definitive CB radio — the full-size mobile that has been the trucker's first choice for roughly fifty years. It runs the 40 license-free CB channels at the legal 4 watts AM on the 27 MHz band, and it is one of the longest continuously produced radios in the entire hobby. It is a CB, not amateur radio and not GMRS, so no license is needed.
What sets it apart from cheaper CBs is the feature set and the build: a large multifunction meter, built-in SWR calibration to tune your antenna, switchable noise blanker and limiter, adjustable mic gain (Cobra's Dynamike), PA capability, and the familiar bright analog dial. Current production now includes FM in addition to AM, following the FCC's 2021 allowance, so newer units are dual-mode. Variants include Chrome and the NightWatch illuminated-panel models.
It remains in active production and is the benchmark against which other mobile CBs are judged. The compact Cobra 25 LTD is the smaller-cased version, while for single sideband the Galaxy DX-959 is the popular SSB alternative.
