Strengths

Big loss reduction over RG-8/213 for long runs; flexible enough to route; ubiquitous connectors and assemblies.

Solid center conductor tolerates limited flexing; genuine LMR costs more than clones; needs proper crimp tools.

Verdict

The default low-loss feedline for HF-through-UHF runs - if a cable run is long or the band is high, LMR-400 is the baseline everyone compares to.

Times Microwave LMR-400 is the standard flexible low-loss 50-ohm feedline for amateur runs: about 0.7 dB/100 ft at 30 MHz - roughly 40% less loss than RG-8/RG-213 - with an ~85% velocity factor and a bonded foil-plus-braid shield, usable to about 6 GHz.
