62.5 inches is tall. The roof mount requires drilling a 3/4-inch hole. It is premium-priced for a CB antenna. A base-loaded design has inherent losses versus a full-length 102-inch whip.

The Wilson 1000 is one of the most respected CB mobile antennas ever made — a base-loaded whip that became a benchmark for performance on the 27 MHz Citizens Band. Its signature is the loading coil: a heavy 10-gauge silver-plated coil wound around the base and suspended in air at several points so almost none of it touches the housing, which keeps losses low and efficiency high. That construction is the real reason it outperforms ordinary mobile whips.
It comes in magnet-mount and permanent trunk-mount forms with a roughly 62-inch whip, and covers the CB band around 26 to 30 MHz. The '1000' in the name refers to power handling — it is rated to roughly 3,000 watts on the ICAS scale — not to gain; like any mobile whip its actual gain is modest, and the benefit is efficiency and a good match rather than a huge signal boost. It needs a solid ground plane (the vehicle body) to work its best.
It is a current product and a long-standing favorite for serious CB operators. The bigger Wilson 5000 is the larger, higher-power version, while the Firestik FS4 is a popular fiberglass alternative.
