Estimated (unverified): GMRS radio - a GMRS license is required. 5W (KG-935G) / 5.5W (Plus); 3 power levels. Color LCD (4 themes base / 10 on Plus); NOAA weather; dual-band RX (136-174 + 400-480 MHz); full DTMF keypad; flashlight; IP66. Base ships 3200 mAh (micro-USB); Plus ships 2600 mAh (USB-C). 30 GMRS channels (22 + 8 repeater); 999 memories; removable SMA. KG-935G ~Aug 2021, Plus ~Feb 2023.
A very capable GMRS handheld: 5.5 W (slightly above standard 5 W), 999 programmable channels, and dual UHF/VHF receive. Split tones and tone scan ease repeater setup, and Channel Wizard programs repeater channels from the keypad without a PC. It has NOAA weather with improved alerts (checking in standby and scan), IP66 waterproofing, a full-color display, and a DTMF keypad, and it is CHIRP compatible (the Plus adds USB-C and ten display themes). The Deluxe Edition kit adds a generous accessory bundle.
Premium-priced per radio. The complex feature set may overwhelm casual GMRS users. The programming cable is sold separately (unless the Deluxe kit). Wouxun is less recognized than Midland. No Bluetooth (the KG-905G Plus/KG-915G have it). It is heavy for a handheld.
A top-end GMRS handheld. The KG-935G brings amateur-radio-style features — 999 channels, dual-band receive, split tones, DTMF, Channel Wizard keypad programming, IP66, and a color display — into a legal GMRS radio. For operators who want the most capable handheld without an amateur license, it is at the top of the market.
The Wouxun KG-935G is the fuller-featured of Wouxun's GMRS handhelds, the one to pick when you want NOAA weather, a real keypad, and a color screen rather than the bare-bones experience. It is a Part 95E GMRS radio requiring an inexpensive, no-test family license, and like its siblings it comes pre-programmed for the GMRS channels.
It transmits 5 watts (the "Plus" revision nudges that to 5.5) across the 30 GMRS channels including the 8 repeater channels, with three power levels. Where it pulls ahead of the cheaper KG-905G is the feature set: NOAA weather with alerts, a dual-band receiver that covers VHF (136 to 174 MHz) as well as UHF so it works as a scanner and weather radio, a color LCD with selectable themes, a full DTMF keypad, and a built-in flashlight. The original ships with a large 3200 mAh battery; the later KG-935G Plus adds USB-C charging and ten color themes but, oddly, a slightly smaller 2600 mAh pack.
It takes a removable SMA antenna and is rated for splash resistance. It is widely regarded as one of the better-built GMRS handhelds, a clear step up from budget imports. For a simpler, cheaper Wouxun handheld, the KG-905G drops the weather and VHF receive; for 50 watts in the vehicle, the KG-1000G is the mobile on the same license.
